Professional Portfolio

headshot of Michael Roever

My name is Michael Roever and I am currently a graduate student working on my Masters in Educational Technology at USCA. This portfolio was created to satisfy the requirements of Advanced Instructional Design course as part of the degree requirement for Masters in Educational Technology at The University of South Carolina Aiken.

I am currently an 8th grade math and science teacher at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School, and for the moment I have no immediate plans to leave the classroom. My motivation for seeking this degree is to increase the effectiveness of my classroom instruction. I could also see myself moving to an online instructional model if remote learning becomes more popular in the future. Eventually I would like to become a technology coach so that I can assist other teachers in improving their classroom environment.

It seems like I have always been teaching, even if I haven’t always been getting paid for it. Even in school I was constantly helping others in my class. By high school I was volunteering to tutor middle schoolers after school and leading my scouting group in merit badges. During college I started my first true teaching position at a private school leading the after school and summer camp program, which eventually transitioned into a substitute position and then a full time job teaching 4k for a semester. During this time I completed my B.A. in middle level math/science education completing my practicum at Aiken Middle School. After graduation I was hired at Batesburg-Leesville for the 8th grade science and math position which I still currently hold.
