Standard 1- Content Knowledge

AECT Standard 1 (Content Knowledge): Candidates demonstrate the knowledge necessary to create, use, assess, and manage theoretical and practical applications of educational technologies and processes.

Artifact 1: EDET703 Website and tasks

  1. Context Conditions- This website along with the tasks included tasks were created During the completion of EDET 703 Design and Development Tools 2 taught by Dr. Gary Senn.
  2. Scope- The website was created to house and display progress throughout the course. It displays the accumulated works from that section and highlights technical skills gained from that instruction.
  3. Role- Throughout this project I served as both the designer, creator and subject matter expert. These products represent the singular effort of myself, although feedback and advice was received by both instructor and peers.
  4. Instructional Design- All steps of the ADDIE model were incorporated in the creation of the E-Learning tool presented on this site. Student needs were first assessed, then the instruction was designed. It was developed using articulate 360 and Implemented in my 8th grade science class. It was evaluated at the conclusion of instruction and revisions were made for use in subsequent years.
  5. Related Performance Indicator(s)
    1. Creating- The candidate created several items were created including a website, graphics, and E-learning tool
    2. Using- The candidate selected and successfully utilized digital tools such as for graphic manipulation, BlueGriffon for web design, Articulate 360 for E-learning development, and Worldcloud as a web 2.0 tool.
    3. Assessing/Evaluating- Candidate used assessment tools, peer feedback, as well as formative and summative assessments throughout the completion of these tasks to drive and refine instruction and products.
    4. Managing-Candidate was able to secure hosting for virtual materials, organize content in a coherent and comprehensive manner, and make them accessible to the viewing public.
    5. Ethics- Candidate made use of licensed or open source materials and software throughout the use of the course. All materials were properly sourced and were referenced appropriately.
  6. Reflection- This assignment gave me an opportunity to use a variety of technology tools to create materials for instructional use. During this assignment I learned about web design and graphic creation. The rapid e-learning tool also allowed me to further my abilities in curriculum design. I feel that the end result of this assignment was satisfactory although there were many shortcomings that I would improve upon in further classes. I feel that the website design was significantly lacking due to my inexperience with formatting and coding.

Artifact 2: Digital Literacy Skills Website

  1. Context Conditions- This website was created in the fall of 2019 as part of the course requirements for EDET 650 Internship in Educational Technology overseen by Dr. Erin Besser.
  2. Scope- The purpose for this assignment was to apply instructional design theory to create a learning tool in an authentic context. It was the cumulative work of an entire semester towards the end of my graduate program.
  3. Role- For this project I was the designer and creator. I worked closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop the final product.
  4. Instructional Design- For this assignment I employed the ADDIE model to design the instructional tool. The assignments within the class were sequenced to allow for analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluations at different points throughout the semester. This can be seen in the attached planning document.
  5. Related Performance Indicator(s)
    1. Creating- The candidate created a webpage along with relevant lessons, resources, and assessments, including a digital learning aid in the form of a troubleshooting guide.
    2. Using- The candidate successfully utilized several digital learning tools such as web development software, presentation applications, and web based assessments.
    3. Assessing/Evaluating- The candidate was able to assess the needs of the stakeholders to develop effective instruction. They also evaluated the attitudes and progress of learners during application of instruction to further improve the tool for further use.
    4. Managing- The candidate demonstrated the ability to balance the needs of several different groups of stakeholders during the development of this instruction.
    5. Ethics- Candidate made use of licensed or open source materials and software throughout the use of the course. All materials were properly sourced and were referenced approperatly. Considerations for FERPA properly addressed
  6. Reflection- This assignment is a culmination of many of the skills developed during my coursework, and reflects my growth through the program. This assignment gave me a “big picture” view of how the things that I have been learning fit into practice and gave me an opportunity to practice and develop many different skills. Overall, I am very satisfied with the end product and responses from stakeholders have been positive as well. Some things I would do differently were I to return to this project or redo it would be to extend its scope and provide a method to differentiate beginner and intermediate users, tailoring a more personalised experience for each.
