Standard 2- Content Pedagogy

AECT Standard 2 (Content Pedagogy): Candidates develop as reflective practitioners able to demonstrate effective implementation of educational technologies and processes based on contemporary content and pedagogy.

Artifact 1: Problem Based Learning with Similar Triangles

  1. Context Conditions- This assignment was created in the spring of 2018 in EDET 709 Application of Learning Principles, taught by Dr. Erin Besser. It was a single assignment within a larger course
  2. Scope- This assignment was designed as an application of learning models that were being studied during this course, specifically, problem based learning.
  3. Role- For this assignment I was the sole designer and creator as well as the subject matter expert.
  4. Instructional Design- This document was created through the application of knowledge in problem based design. It employed multiple components of the MRK model such as defineing the instructional problems, task analysis, and instructional objectives.
  5. Related Performance Indicator(s)
    1. Creating- The candidate created a lesson plan which implements best practices in instructional design
    2. Using- The candidate used the created lesson along with geometry software to develop student learning.
    3. Assessing/Evaluating- The candidate used knowledge of student entry characteristics to design instruction. The candidate also utilized appropriate rubrics to assess student learning and refine implementation.
    4. Managing- The candidate successfully managed the technology resources required for the lesson along with student actions.
    5. Ethics- Candidate created a lesson absent of any cultural or gender bias. All sources were appropriately cited.
  6. Reflection- This assignment gave me an opportunity to apply instructional design in my classroom and led to one of my most successful lessons of the year. It reinforced how the study of instructional design could lead to applied learning in authentic contexts. I feel that the hands on component and detailed analysis of the problem were its greatest strength. One weakness that I feel is that I should have added more detail on how the geogebra software was to be used to model these problems.

Artifact 2: Instructional Design Unit on the Rock Cycle

  1. Context Conditions-These artifacts were constructed in the Fall of 2018 as part of the course requirements of EDET 722- Instructional Design and Assessment by Dr. Tammi Kolinski.
  2. Scope- This assignment represents the end result of a running assignment which spanned the entire semester.
  3. Role- I was the sole designer, creator and subject matter expert on this assignment.
  4. Instructional Design-This product was created using the ADDIE model. Significant time was spent on the Analysis and Design components for this assignment as reflected in the complexity of the front end analysis report.
  5. Related Performance Indicator(s)
    1. Creating-The Candidate created a rapid elearning tool was created along with appropriate documentation and assessment items.
    2. Using- The candidate used the tool effectively in an authentic setting.
    3. Assessing/Evaluating-The candidate recorded and utilized appropriate data gathering both before and after instruction to guide and refine feedback.
    4. Managing-The candidate created and hosted digital material in an accessible format. The candidate was able to administer instruction effectively
    5. Ethics- The candidate took students backgrounds and prior learning into account during development and took special needs into consideration.
  6. Reflection- This assignment provided me with an opportunity to develop many of my skills related to instructional design. It required me to utilize the ADDIE model heavily and also stretched my technical skills considerably. I would often refer back to the documentation on this assignment as an example for future assignments. One thing that I feel could be done better is the graphic design of the instruction. One of my weaknesses in the creation of technology tools is the user interface.
