Standard 5- Research

AECT Standard 5 (Research): Candidates explore, evaluate, synthesize, and apply methods of inquiry to enhance learning and improve performance

Artifact 1: Connectivisim and Massive Open Online Classes

Document
  1. Context Conditions- This assignment was created in EDET 709 Application of Learning Principles taught by Dr. Besser during the spring semester of 2018
  2. Scope- This research paper was the final assignment of the course and was worked on in stages throughout the course.
  3. Role- I was the sole researcher and author for this artifact.
  4. Instructional Design- This paper relates to the instructional problems development of instruction and designing the message components of the MRK model.
  5. Related Performance Indicator(s)
    1. Theoretical Foundation- The candidate underwent research of the past and current theories related to their topic
    2. Method- The candidate applied appropriate research methodologies to conduct their research.
    3. Assessing/Evaluating- The candidate successfully analyzed and evaluated sources and procedures while conducting their research.
    4. Ethics- The candidate appropriately sourced and cited resources and presented information in a truthful manner.
  6. Reflection- This was one of my more comprehensive assignments and immensely developed my skills in conducting research. It required me to make use of various methods to locate my source material and to read those sources in much more detail than I had been used to. I feel like this artifact does a good job of displaying my skills in this standard. To improve upon this research I could have included additional sources that were difficult to obtain as many were behind paywalls that I could not access.

Artifact 2: Impact of Differentiated Instruction in the Flipped Classroom

Document
  1. Context Conditions-This research paper was created in the summer of 2019 as part of the course requirements of EDET 780- Research Seminar in Educational Technology, taught by Dr. Besser.
  2. Scope-This paper was created as a cumulative assignment created over the course of a semester.
  3. Role-During this project I worked with two of my peers, Kawanna Mckenzie and Tabatha Younts. For this project I assisted in locating sources and contributed to each of the sections, however my main contributions were to the methods sections.
  4. Instructional Design- This research would fall into the analysis step in the ADDIE model, as the goal was to research the use of differentiated instruction within the flipped classroom.
  6. Reflection- This assignment was the first time that I worked on a collaborative research project at such a high level. I not only had to find resources that I felt were appropriate but also had to justify to my peers its value and placement within the overall structure. It required me to think deeper about these sources than I had previously been used to. I feel that the research completed was well done, but could have been better if we had been more specific and gone deeper with a more focused topic.
